A former nurse was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder and genital mutilation of her 61-year-old ex-husband.
JoAnn Godt, who will turn 68 next week, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the 2005 beating death of Jay Godt. The indictment accused her of beating her ex-husband with a baseball bat and cutting off his penis.
Authorities have said Jay Godt had been the victim of domestic violence at the hands of his former wife for some time.
Even though the two were divorced, they still lived together in a home in St. Louis's Illinois suburbs. Jay Godt worked in the mailroom at the Belleville News-Democrat printing plant.
